2017 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

EDN’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards took place on April 11th at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront. This year’s theme was “Side Hustle – A business venture that acts as an alternative income stream”. EDN members, friends, community partners, business service providers and staff came together to form this successful event!

Once again this year, Archie Gillis, EDN’s Business Counselling Coordinator moderated the panel discussion. The panel, comprised of Tapiwa Rabwi, Ian McRuer, Nicole Osmond and Nanci Lee, offered interesting discussions and insights relating to the Mosaic Economy, as well as their own side hustles.

Joanne Schmit, the founder of Galloping Cows Fine Foods, was named EDN’s Entrepreneur of the Year. Galloping Cows produces great tasting pepper jellies, jams, fruit sauces, beverage concentrates, salsa and chutney. Joanne was invited to gift Galloping Cow products to the swag bags of the Oscar Nominees at the 89th Oscar Gifting Suite!

Our Runner-Up this year was Simon McFayden, also known as DJ Ace. DJ Ace’s increasing popularity within the Halifax area, not only within the disability community, but also in areas such as weddings, corporate and community events, is a testament to his hard work and passion for DJing.
