2016 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards
This year, EDN celebrated Entrepreneur of the Year on April 12th, in the Paul O’Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library. EDN members, friends, community partners, business service providers and staff packed the house to participate in the evening which featured two incredible guest speakers, a vendor’s showcase and a panel discussion. Once again the event proved to be a great success!
The finalists this year were: Devin Way of North East Coast Niceness, Donna Lavallee of Airline Employee Travel Consulting Inc and Heather MacAulay of My Generation. Congratulations go out to all finalists as well as our Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, Debbie Adams of PeopleCan Training and Development!
One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion, moderated by our very own Archie Gillis, based on the theme of the evening: “From Barriers to Breakthroughs”. Daniel Code-McNeil, Tom Wise, Maggy Burns and Colin Gillis joined the panel and provided their invaluable insights on how they overcame obstacles by creating opportunities for themselves as business owners. Special thanks to Wendy Vrooman of Sandler Sales and Bill Hildreth for speaking at our event.
Our Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Iain Downey of Iain’s Tartan Bakery. Iain is an enthusiastic baker who ensures that all of his baked creations are gluten, and dairy free. Iain has devised his own gluten-free flour mix and used it to create various new recipes. The increasing demand for Iain’s baked goods is how Iain’s Tartan Bakery started. Iain is currently taking orders and working from the kitchen in Grace United Church in downtown Dartmouth, and is looking forward to selling at local farmer’s markets.
Thank you to guests, panelists, guest speakers, funders, and everyone for making this event a success!
