Annual General Meeting

EDN’s 15th Annual General Meeting

EDN held its 15th Annual General Meeting on June 23, 2010. Members, staff, and Board members were invited to participate in the event at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel.

This year EDN offered workshops prior to the Annual General Meeting. The workshops were each well attended with a total of 17 participants. The specific focus on the workshops this year were social media, finance and marketing. Members benefitted from the expertise provided by our knowledgeable moderators who facilitated the workshop discussions.

A successful year of EDN activities was recapped with reports and presentations from the President, Executive Director and Treasurer. Some of the highlights included new Partnerships such as a Memorandum of Understanding, Entrepreneur of the Year awards, Best Big Idea Competition, Small Business Week, Holiday Social and the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market.

This years Pamela Langille Award was awarded to Ronda Moulton. This award is to recognize an individual who has volunteered their time, knowledge and expertise selflessly to EDN. Ronda has volunteered significantly and helped other members with EDN’s initiative at the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market. She is continuing with her involvement to help with EDN’s goal of making the Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market a permanent location for members to sell and advertise their businesses.

During EDN’s Annual General Meeting we took a moment to recognize six outgoing board members, Bob Brown, Troy desBarres, Sterling Kendall, Ken MacMillan, Sandra Preeper and Don Roper, for their leadership, inspiration and dedication to EDN who have each devoted many years to EDN.

Nominations for new board members also took place during the meeting, EDN is proud and excited in electing seven new board members, Garnet Brooks, Mary Jane Copps, Chris Hornberger, Derek Lewis, Elysia Percival, Lorelei Phillips and Susan Kilbride-Roper for the 2011-2012 year.

EDN was privileged to have Derek Lewis as a guest speaker. Derek is a successful entrepreneur currently living with a disability. His inspirational journey and entrepreneurial success captivated the audience and EDN is excited to have him join our Board of Directors.

As new technology becomes available EDN continues to make our events more accessible to members, and this year for the first time EDN offered members the opportunity to use Skype to participate in the Annual General meeting remotely.

Finally, EDN would like to thank everyone who attended the Annual General Meeting.

EDN’s 14th Annual General Meeting

The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Network (EDN) held its Annual General Meeting at the Halifax Westin Nova Scotian Hotel on June 24.

The meeting consisted of report presentations from the President, Executive Director, as well as Treasurer. These reports recapped activity at EDN over the past year as well as any plans for the year ahead.

Mary Jane Copps “The Phone Lady” was this years recipient of the Pamela Langille Memorial award. We also took a moment to recognize two outgoing board members, Roswell James and Kevin White, who have each devoted many years to EDN.

For the first time, EDN’s AGM was broadcast online through GoGetitNow! For anyone unable to attend, members had the ability to follow a provided link and watch the event from home on their computers.

The Annual General Meeting is a great opportunity to network with fellow EDN members, to become familiar with EDN’s policies and bylaws, and to show your support for a not-for-profit organization that serves entrepreneurs with disabilities across the province. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend this years AGM!

EDN’s 13th Annual General Meeting

EDN’s 13th Annual General Meeting was a success! The event was held in the Lunenburg room at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel. Snacks were served, and there was a reception period before the AGM began.

Several exciting things happened during our AGM. Firstly, one of EDN’s past co-op students, Angelica Tueva, presented her findings of the Success Report. The findings were quite interesting and sparked discussion among members.

Secondly, two people were awarded for their hard work and dedication to EDN. The Pamela Langille Memorial Award, a new award given to an individual who dedicated their time, expertise, and knowledge to EDN, was granted to Ann Smith, a lawyer who assisted EDN recently. Ann’s dedication and kindness to EDN did not go unnoticed, and we thank her for all of her hard work! A gift crafted by Nova Scotian Crystal was awarded to Ann.

The second award was granted to Roswell James, President on EDN’s Board of Directors, in appreciation of his leadership and dedication to the Board during his Presidency. Roswell had fulfilled his term as President, and, as according to our by-laws, was required to step down. A Rosewood plaque and a Keg gift certificate were awarded in appreciation.
